The MKII.s Scout Regiment Telescope was first introduced in 1939 at the start of WW2 and soon after supplied as an integral part of the sniper's No4T kit chest issued alongside the Holland & Holland modified Lee Enfield No.4(T) sniper's rifle, matched scope, officers prismatic compass, etc. The 20x telescope provided a good balance between ease of use/weight, acquiring targets, and locating other snipers.
This Scout Regiment MK2.S snipers spotting telescope is stamped with the British Military broad arrow, confirming service issue and other marks showing the model number OS. 126. GA, maker K.E.C. Serial and stamps are typical of scopes later paired with late No4(T) and L42A1 CES.
This Scout Reg example would make a fine addition to any collection of Military spotting scopes that were part of the sniper rifle CES. It would also make an especially correct period addition to an L42A1 chest or one of the 2000 No4(T) manufactured in 1946. This would have found its way into any No4(T) chests requiring a replacement Scout Regiment Scopes during post-WW2 conflicts.
As with all our scopes, this is 100% correct, complete and period throughout, including the original correct case and shoulder strap and should not be confused with the ridiculous fakes in circulation.
The optics have been cleaned and checked, and both external and internal optics are original and correct and produce a pin-sharp, detailed image as the scope would have done over 80 years ago.
Of note is that the optics on this scope are among the higher magnifications we usually see with scout regiment scopes well into the upper range at 22X. As a result, the closest focus distance is a little further than usual at around 20-25m (largely irrelevant); however, the image at a distance is very detailed for an SRT.
The drawers are in superb condition, retaining all their original bluing with only minor wear from service use. We have replaced and adjusted the gland linings, and the telescope is true and straight. The drawer extension is as it should be: smooth, firm and feels airtight, and the focusing tube drawer movement is smooth & fluid throughout the entire focus range while holding the focus position if required.
The fitted leather case is in excellent condition, with all the stitching and loops in perfect solid condition. The shoulder strap is well worn but in excellent condition. The leather case has a grey velvet internal liner with a matching liner inside the end cap. The case and shoulder strap buckles are in good, solid condition; the case buckle retains the original leather stitched coating, but the leather coating is worn away on the shoulder strap buckle.
The thermoset cladding on the telescope body and ray shield is in superb condition and it is rare to find one in this condition without a single chip or delaminated area.
The achromatic lens assembly is in excellent condition, clear, with no chips or haze, and the visual image is perfect and as good as Scout Regiment Telescopes get, pin sharp and easy to focus. The anti-glare filter to the eyepiece is clear and slides securely in and out of position. The Ray Shield movement is smooth and holds position extended and retracted.
A genuine military issue L42A1 period MK.2.S scope 100% complete and correct period throughout, excellent optical quality, cleaned, serviced, original leather case & strap, entirely usable.
This KEC scope would be an excellent match for the L42A1 CES. It would also be perfect to complete the CES for a 1946 No.4(T) and suitable for any No.4(T), as they regularly updated the CES with later scopes during post-WW2 conflicts.
